At Bergen Farms, the safety of our employees and of the food that we grow and sell is our top priority. Our processing facilities and farms are third party audited annually for food safety and we have a designated person on our staff to ensure all food safety regulations are being followed. Through the Covid-19 pandemic, we have adapted our harvesting and packing procedures to ensure that not only is our food safe for consumption, but also that our employees feel safe at work.
Some extra measures that we have implemented in response to COVID-19 include:
– Daily wellness checks for all employees, trades and visitors to our site.
– Dedicated Covid 19 training for all staff with updates as new information becomes available from public health.
– Practicing social distancing in high traffic areas such as hand wash stations, lunch rooms, meeting areas, harvest sites and packing rooms. We are also staggering breaks or moving outdoors when possible to ensure there is enough space for everyone.
– New procedures are in place for any non-employees on the farm and pack house. This includes procedures for truck drivers.
– Increased sanitation of high touch points at the packing house and in the fields.
– Limiting field and processing access to employees only. We have also reduced the number of staff on site at one time.
– Physical barriers are in place and masks and face shields are worn where social distancing may not be possible. In our processing facilities, non medical masks are required.
In everything that we have done, our priority has continued to be the safety of our employees and the safety of our food while continuing to provide a high quality product to our loyal customers.
